ChaTcIRCuiT IRC Chat Policies
Updated 20 September, 2003

Before continuing to chat on this server you are expected to read through all of these rules. Once you commence chatting, it is understood that you have read and agreed you will follow these rules.

  1. Free Speech
Chatcircuit is a firm believer in free speech as long as it is not offensive to others. Your free speech on this server is restricted in publicly accessible information, including, but not limited to your user information, channel information, and what is said in public channels.

  2. Harrassment
Harrassment is not allowed, even in minor forms. Most users on this server prefer to allow permission prior to receiving private messages. Private messaging without permission, and continuing to do so after being asked to stop is harrassment. Other forms of harrassment such as persistent hatred or annoyances and those of sexual harrassment will not be tolerated.

If you are harrassed, or if you encounter any behavior that is in violation of our policies, please either log the incident or cut and paste it from your buffer to a text file with timestamps and timezone. We will need all of that information when we notify their system administrator. Locate an IRCop as quickly as you can (check in at #chatcircuit or type '/who 0 o' (that's /who zero lowercase o) or '/helpop') and if all else fails, email the incident log to us. If you have any questions about our policies, please contact an IRC administrator.

  3. Illegal Content and Activity
Pornography, hacking and cracking tools, and copyrighted material may not be transmitted through our server. Users found infected with a trojan of some kind will be removed for their protection. Spoofing, bouncing, and the use of shells to access our server is prohibited.

ChaTcIRCuit does not tolerate illegal activity of any kind. Should we find a user or channel engaging in or encouraging illegal activity, we will take immediate action. This may range from simply speaking to the person(s) involved, terminating the connection(s), or banning the domain.

  4. Advertising
Chatcircuit allows non-commercial and non-profit advertising as long as it isn't spamming. We will grant permission to commercial and for-profit purposes through provisions, and will be limited. Spamming is prohibited and is described as flyby advertising, gathering information with the intent to advertise outside of the server, and flooding.

  5. Channels
Matters within a channel are to be handled by the channel operators. Server operators do not handle channel matters unless it involves server policy violations. Server operators also do not handle the internal affairs of a channel and will not lift bans set by the channel operators.

  6. Bots
Bots are allowed on our server provided you run only one bot and its intent is not for war. Eggdrop bots and emechs are NOT allowed. It is advised to set usermode +B on your bot. Chatcircuit does NOT provide server space for bots. Chatcircuit's channel holder service is provided to users with established traffic to their channel and who wish to keep the channel open when no users are present. Bots may be requested for consideration after the channel has been open for 30 days and has proof of established traffic.

  7. Opers (IRCops)
Server operators on this server are volunteers. Quality support is NOT guaranteed, but is encouraged. We choose our server operators based on what we know about them through the experience with them in chat, not through what you say you can do and who you say you are. Do NOT attempt to help users on matters which should be handled by a server operator.

Do not ask for IRCop status. Our server operators are invited on an "as needed" basis, and at the discretion of the server owner and the other opers. We don't add new IRCops very often, and asking or even hinting for it pretty much guarantees you won't be considered at all.

  8. Linking
Since we can only regulate our own server in a network, and we wish to continue providing our own services with its years of data, we do not wish to link with other servers or join other networks, no matter how many users you can bring or how much work you can provide for us.

  9. Summary
Based on the previously mentioned rules, the server operators on Chatcircuit have the right to deny access to any user who refuses to agree to these rules. By joining our server and chatting on it, you agree to these rules. By breaking any one or more of these rules you ask for yourself to be removed. This server is a privately owned server which enforces its policies.

  10. Contact
If you have a question about any one or more of these rules, or have a complaint, use our email form to contact an IRCop. If you send an email about a ban or other reason you cannot access the server, be sure to copy and paste the output from your client to the email so that we may better serve you. Depending on the circumstances at the time, a reply may not be immediate.
